First Friday Boston February 3rd 2012: Part 1

I went to 1st Friday in Boston sponsered by SoWa again this past Friday, and this time I scanned the postcards, scanned the business cards, and took pictures of some of the galleries and studios. Some things were different while other things were the same, but it was still enjoyable. I am separating the experience into three blog posts because there are so many pictures for me to show. Here are a few things I saw:

Here is Arnie Casavant's business card. This is a painter of realisic scenes.

Here is Beth Wood's postcard. Flowers and bright colors are her common theme.

Here is B. Glee Lucus's postcard. This artist paints beautiful still lifes that include glass of all sorts of shapes and sizes, and always with bright colors.

Here is a postcard for The Boston Sculptors Gallery. They host many different sculptors' works.

Here is a pamphlet for Charles Tersolo. This is perhaps the only pamphlet I saw.

 

Here is a postcard for Ed Friedman. He took many photographs of statues.

Here is a postcard for Phillip Spinks at the FP3 Residences and Gallery.

 Here is Alicia Thomas's postcard. She did quite a few pieces with spiders.

Here is a postcard for George Gabin's gallery. Unfortunately he is no longer with us.

Here are some photographs I took while I was there.

Here is a black splotch on a wall. It is interesting what can be art.

Here was an art gallery that is a little seperated from the rest, but is usually popular.

I liked how this artist used a siloette of birds.

The artwork is intersting, but so are the people who come to see it.

A particular sculptor at the Boston Scukptors' Gallery liked to carve wooden figures with bird heads.

And further back into the Boston Scukptors' Gallery...

It was interesting to see new artwork displayed on stylized, factory-like wall.

A particular sculpture that hung on a wall. There was also a black one.

Two interesting paintings.

There was a large store that sold old, retro items. They even have various leather jackets that are in great condition.

This looks painful!

Here is a grouping of paintings. Some artists choose to group certain pictures together and can sell them individually or grouped together.

Another picture of that black splotch on the wall. I am not sure how this type of artwork can be sold...

1st Friday Boston

I visited 1st Friday in Boston at the SoWa Artists Guild of 450 Harrison Avenue and I really enjoyed it. I saw lots of colorful paintings, huge paintings that would take up an entire wall, photographs, vintage stuff, and sculptures of all shapes and sizes including ones entirely made from hanger wires. If you are into the Arts, I suggest you visit, and perhaps you'll find something that will define your home.

I went there as a suggestion from Andy Fish, who taught "How to Market Your Artwork in the 21st Century" at the Worcester Art Museum of which I partook in. I have a better understanding of what studios and galleries are and what they make. I am unsure if my style and preference for most of my artwork would belong in a gallery or require a studio space. However, I can definitely see the benefit in having both for other types of artists.

Fire Dragons

Here are some early sketches of Fire dragons I drew a while ago. One is based on a roaster and an iguana. The other is based on an alligator and a seahorse. Again both of these will appear in my series.

This upcoming Friday I will be going to 1st Friday in Boston run by the SoWa Artists Guild of 450 Harrison Avenue to check out some art studios and galleries. I am looking forward to it. Perhaps I will feature my work in a gallery.
