11 Second Club: June 2012 sketch

I am hoping to complete this month's animation before it is due. I am certain I can do it this time because I have simplified things even further. Of course if there is enough time before the end of the month I may add more detail here and there. The sketch above is of the character from the animation. This time I am sticking to more of a cartoon than of a realistic person. The fact that the head and hands are circles while the torso is an oval will help with the animation in the end.

Here is the storyboard for the animation so far. I added some sketches from the original hand sketches as I listened to the audio. I might add some screens in the background displaying a sword fight or something if I have enough time.

Storyboard: 11 Second Animation May 2012

Here is the storyboard for my animation so far. As you can see, I am trying a few different things this time. For starters, I have the beginning picture throughout the scene despite the fact that the drawn frames because I want to keep the characters proportionate throughout the animation. I think that was one of my major flaws with my previous work. I have the back of a head in the foreground in order to help provide some space where I don't need to animate. This head is supposed to be a character who is also in the scene, but he is only sitting in place. I have made more frames within this storyline because I want more of a flow throughout the animation, so I will need to know what movement I will make despite how small the movements might be. I might work on these frames a little more.

I don't know why, but the timing is off from when I exported this into a flash file. Hopefully that will be fixed when I draw more frames in.

11 Second Club Sketch: March 2012

Here is my storyboard for the 11 Second Club's March 2012 contest. I have uploaded it to my Youtube channel along with my previous submissions.

As you can see, I am keeping the animation simple this time around. A sword fight might have been a little too complex for someone at my current level of animating. I still want to incorporate some expressive body movement and some structures collapsing. I'm hoping to at least have the main character, the cube/pyramid, and the sphinx all done before the end of this competition. The second character is not as important as the one who speaks.

Detailed Sketches

I have decided to have more detailed drawings for the storyboard of this animation this time. I believe it was too difficult to have such quick sketches serve as the storyboard for my last animation because the body proportions and position moved at times that would not make sense. I felt I could figure out most of the movement from drawing it on paper and then save the in between detail on the computer where I can see the frames before and after.

I have also decided to keep the movement much more simple and planned out. I am not currently hired for an animation company so I am not considered a professional. Therefore, I should not jump ahead of myself for my capabilities.

I was trying for 5 second intervals between each picture, but it will most likely vary.

11 Second Club Sketch #2

This is a more detailed storyboard for the 11 Second Club animation. I changed the subtitles a little bit to make more sense and to go along with the sound of the voice. I have already began to animate the face of the character who speaks, but I still have a long way to go.
