Wedding of Jillian Costa & Johnathan Helme

Last Thursday June 20th, 2013, my friends Jillian Costa and Johnathan Helme got married. The wedding was at Jill's parents' house and it was beautiful. The reception was at Benjamin's Restaurant in Taunton, MA. It was perhaps the best wedding reception I have ever been to.

The whole wedding had a main theme of Game of Thrones. Some of the music that played was from the show, and the tables at the reception where we sat were named after the houses. There was also a little bit of The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and zombies incorporated within the reception.

There were some interesting things that occurred at the wedding. There was this tradition where we all tied knots in these ribbons the bride and groom wore around their hands that represent the number of years of happiness they will have. We were also about to do a drum circle, but we ran out of time before the reception.

As we waited to be seated in the reception room, waitresses came around serving delicious hors d'oeurves and each table had either a card or board game for people to play. The table I waited at had Apples 2 Apples which was really fun. Funny thing is, I brought Monty Python Fluxx.

Once we got into the reception room, we waited for the bride's maids, the grooms men, and the parents of the bride and groom to be announced to enter the room. Once they all entered, the doors were closed, the bride and groom were introduced, and in they came escorted by Darth Vader with Storm Troopers as the Imperial March played in the background. It was hilarious!

We watched a touching, if not funny at times, video the couple made about how they met and about their lives. The video also included pictures from their childhoods and a humorous comic they put together of themselves in "The Walking Dead." Then we ate a good meal and cake.

Then there were the dances of the groom with his mother, the bride with her father, and the bride and the groom. Just as all of that finished, zombies came in and began to dance to Micheal Jackson's Thriller! Afterwards I asked who's ideas these were and Jill told me everything was her idea. She loves to be crazy, and we love her for it.

We were also given these inspirational zombie cards as well as mixed CD's. Both were really interesting.

For the rest of the night, we danced on the dance floor. My favorite songs were Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, of which we got into a circle to sing and rock out, and Europe's The Final Countdown. The rest were mostly pop songs, which I'd only dance to at these sort of occasions.

All in all, I really enjoyed it. I got to talk to friends I hadn't seen in a while and new people who I had common interests with.

Jilly Bean, John, I wish both many years of happiness!

Free Comic Book Day! May 4th 2013

This past Saturday, May 4th was Free Comic Book day again! Again I had to wait until after I got out of work in order to stop by That's Entertainment to look at the selection of free comic books. I was very surprised that there was such a large selection this year! I don't know if I missed out on the selections in the past and was stuck with only a few choices because of that, but I saw at least three sections of comic books with over six comic books each. One of the sections was for young children, one was for teenagers, and one was for mature adults.

There was a free The Walking Dead comic book available. It contained a segment from the a Walking Dead comic book I already own, and a few other segments from the other comic books. As far as I can tell, compared to the television show, the comic book likes to follow more characters other than the main protagonist. That is one of the reasons why the comic books and the television show are so different, because certain things are able to be done in graphic novels that are not able to be done on television. Who thought Image comic books would have ever come out with something good besides Spawn?

There was also this Wolverine comic book. I would expect to see more mature rated comic of Wolverine considering he has sharp claws made out of the strongest metal there is. He can not just slash through machines all the time, he must have to use his claws against humans and mutants.

It was interesting to read through the stories in Raymayan. There appears to be various artists and styles within this comic book company, Graphic India, that all work on stories surrounding a few certain characters. You don't often see that for any series, at least not for numerous years after a few reboots.

I really liked the free comic book Radical. It contained parts of graphic novel stories, some based on well known stories of old like Aladdin and Hercules, but these pages don't have any speech bubbles whatsoever. It just contains images, very well crafted images of the stories. I'm guessing this company prefers people to see the beautiful artwork rather than text. I am not complaining!
It was surprising to read Soleil. Apparently Marvel comics is publishing comic books from Europe, but translated into English for an American audience who probably has never seen. There are some very unique styles and stories here, and I am interested to read more of some of this!

There were a few other comic books that I was also interested in reading, but I could only get 5 free ones. There was a Mega-man comic book, Star Wars Comic book, Tomb Raider comic book, a Green Lantern Comic book, and a few others that peeked my interest. If you were able to get some free comics this past Saturday, hopefully you got some interesting ones!

The Walking Dead

(This image is from tvilicious.com)

I have just finished watching the first season of The Walking Dead on Netflix. Considering the first season is only six episodes long, it didn't take too long. I have seen a few parts from the show of both seasons prior to watching it now, so I already know of a few spoilers.

It is an interesting show, though I don't really recall the characters names, just their faces and their behaiviors. I can understand why they might die off at times just so that the veiwers don't have too many characters to try to remember.

Many people who haven't seen this show beleive it is just one long zombie story. Sure it is a zombie story, but a story that takes place in a zombie apocolypse can allow for some interesting human behavior amongst the characters. Movies with zombies tend to either focus on horror or even comedy nowadays, but this series has drama in it.

How would certain people react if their loved one was ever turned into a dangerous monster? What would a spouse do in a crumbling world if their husband or wife was believed to be dead? At what point is there no hope left? These are many questions this series asks and tries it's best to answer.

This series is currently on its third season on AMC, but since I have quite a bit of the series to get through I will just have to wait until the third series appears on Netflix before watching it.
