That's Entertainment Godzilla Double Feature 2014 & Latest Update about Zheph Skyre

I decided to change the date my web comic update because I was always updating by Wednesday anyways and it will be easier for me in the end. The latest page still needs a lot of work.

Last week on Monday July 14th, it was my 28th birthday. It also just so happened, it was also the night of That's E's annual Godzilla Double Feature, so a few of my friends agreed to come along! We had an awesome time!

The two movies were Godzilla Vs Smog Monster and Godzilla Vs Destroyah. Both movies had similar premises where Godzilla was facing a devastating kaiju that starts off as many smaller creatures that combine into one giant form. In both movies the kaiju Godzilla was facing had certain abilities that threatened the world, and his adversary could fly. Man also helped out with the disastrous situation.

The first movie was funny considering the design of the monster, the way the Smog Monster killed people, the way the monsters moved, the animated clips, and certain other funny parts that this older movie had. Destroyah was much more intimidating, and in that movie it had a sad ending where Godzilla melts away from his own nuclear power. However, more people preferred the hilarious cheesiness of the first movie that was shown that night.

Free Comic Book Day! May 4th 2013

This past Saturday, May 4th was Free Comic Book day again! Again I had to wait until after I got out of work in order to stop by That's Entertainment to look at the selection of free comic books. I was very surprised that there was such a large selection this year! I don't know if I missed out on the selections in the past and was stuck with only a few choices because of that, but I saw at least three sections of comic books with over six comic books each. One of the sections was for young children, one was for teenagers, and one was for mature adults.

There was a free The Walking Dead comic book available. It contained a segment from the a Walking Dead comic book I already own, and a few other segments from the other comic books. As far as I can tell, compared to the television show, the comic book likes to follow more characters other than the main protagonist. That is one of the reasons why the comic books and the television show are so different, because certain things are able to be done in graphic novels that are not able to be done on television. Who thought Image comic books would have ever come out with something good besides Spawn?

There was also this Wolverine comic book. I would expect to see more mature rated comic of Wolverine considering he has sharp claws made out of the strongest metal there is. He can not just slash through machines all the time, he must have to use his claws against humans and mutants.

It was interesting to read through the stories in Raymayan. There appears to be various artists and styles within this comic book company, Graphic India, that all work on stories surrounding a few certain characters. You don't often see that for any series, at least not for numerous years after a few reboots.

I really liked the free comic book Radical. It contained parts of graphic novel stories, some based on well known stories of old like Aladdin and Hercules, but these pages don't have any speech bubbles whatsoever. It just contains images, very well crafted images of the stories. I'm guessing this company prefers people to see the beautiful artwork rather than text. I am not complaining!
It was surprising to read Soleil. Apparently Marvel comics is publishing comic books from Europe, but translated into English for an American audience who probably has never seen. There are some very unique styles and stories here, and I am interested to read more of some of this!

There were a few other comic books that I was also interested in reading, but I could only get 5 free ones. There was a Mega-man comic book, Star Wars Comic book, Tomb Raider comic book, a Green Lantern Comic book, and a few others that peeked my interest. If you were able to get some free comics this past Saturday, hopefully you got some interesting ones!

Page 35 of Zheph Skyre in Black and White & That's E Monster Mash Double Feature

Here is page 35 of Zheph Skyre in black and white. I know Mondays have been getting a lot of black and white pages, but I am really trying to get these pages finished as soon as possible. The new size may help with the final results, but it makes it more time consuming. I am not able to easily transport such large pages.

Here is a photograph of the inside of the Elm Draught House Cinema during the Halloween Monster Double Feature sponsored by That's Entertainment.I had a fun time. I dressed up as Dilbert, got free candy, participated in a free raffle and enjoyed a large screen viewing of two classic movies. It had been a long time since I had seen "Beetlejuice" and "Ghostbusters."

Page 34 of Zheph Skyre & That's Entertainment Halloween Monster Mash

Here is page 34 of my Zheph Skyre web comic. There maybe some things I want to change in this, but that can wait until I print out this webcomic into books to sell.

Jahovac is not fazed at all by having his cloak burned. So why would Zheph set it on fire, and what is glowing in his staff?

That's Entertainment was supposed to have a Halloween party last Monday, but due to Hurricane Sandy it was postponed for this Monday November 5th at 6:00. It will be at Elm Draught House in Millbury, MA. There will be a free theatrical showing of Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice, raffles, candy, and more. Tickets are availible at the Park Ave. Worcester store, and are limited. I am going, and I bet it will be a good time like the Godzilla Double Feature.

Godzilla Aftermath

I went to the That's E's "Godzilla Double Feature" at the Elm Draught House last night, and I had a good time again. I actually bought a little bit from the concession stands this time around. They don't appear to have much to drink, but they actually have several different flavors of Smirnoff for sweet-flavored drinkers like myself. I also brought some Pocky. I didn't win anything from the raffle and I was surprised to see how many people left before the last few items were raffled. It really drew out a lot of time when they call numbers on tickets and no one has it.

This time we watched the 1975 "Terror of Mechagodzilla" and the 2001 "Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack."

(This image was provided by stomptokyo.com.)

"Terror of Mechagodzilla" was the second movie to feature Mechagodzilla and the only one to feature Titanosaurus. As the movie begins, we get to see clips from the previous movie with Godzilla facing Mechagodzilla, where Godzilla appears to be facing only a copy of himself until the false flesh comes off and reveals the robot underneath. When I was a child, I thought the humans created Mechagodzilla to protect them from Godzilla, but it is actually made by aliens in order to destroy humans and Godzilla. I believe the only reason Titanosaurus was featured in this movie was to help keep Godzilla from tearing off Mechagodzilla's head like last time. Titanosaurus has a tail that can split into a fan that can produce powerful winds. That allows Mechagodzilla a chance to just shoot its multitude of projectile weapons at Godzilla. The humans help stop Titanosaurus so that Godzilla can defeat them both. As to the humans' plot, I could barely understand it and had no interest in it. This type of movie was made only for giant monster battles.

"Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" actually had Godzilla featured as the villian and the other monsters as good. They helped portray this with Godzilla's eyes as completely white. It makes Godzilla look completely devoid of any sympathetic emotions. They also made Godzilla's radioactive breath appear to be much more destructive in power. It's a little weird rooting for one monster to begin with and then rooting for the other monsters. I guess the producer didn't feel like keeping the consistency of one storyline.

GODZILLA!!!

I received this flyer today for another Godzilla movie double feature sponsored by the store That's Entertainment in Worcester. Where the movies will be shown are in actually in Millbury where there is an old fashion theater for these sort of events. Admission is free as long as you get a ticket ahead of time at the store in Worcester.

(I found this image on Google.)

I had been to a previous viewing of this Godzilla double feature and I enjoyed it. The only Japanese Godzilla movie I had seen before this double feature was Godzilla Vs King Kong, which was alright.

At the double feature, they showed Godzilla Vs Gigan and Godzilla 2000. Godzilla Vs Gigan turned out to be really good, and there were two other monsters that helped each side. Godzilla was assisted by the spiky armadillo monster Anguirus while Gigan, the cybernetic monster with blades, was assisted by the three headed, winged dragon monster King Ghidorah. It was surprising that this movie had blood spilled by the giant monsters as they fought, and the fight scenes were entertaining, like wrestlers in monster costumes with super powers.

Godzilla 2000 had all of the monsters from the previous movie make an appearance along with numerous other monsters including Mothra, the giant moth. The movie creators even incorporated the American remake of Godzilla in this film. The audience was happy when the Japanese Godzilla killed the American Godzilla easily. I used to be a fan of that movie, but I eventually realized that it sucks and I sold the VHS of it. The human actors in this movie proved to be more interesting than in the previous film with numerous fight and action sequences that rivaled the monsters'. It was all very ridiculous, convoluted fun. If you are into that sort of thing, I suggest that you should check out some of the old Godzilla movies.

I used to wonder why people even now were into these retro movies with monsters that were obviously men in costumes or figurines, but I realized that these movies still hold a certain caliber that other movies even now do not. These movies used set pieces, real explosions, simple editing, and numerous old techniques that give them a certain quality that today's CGI can not copy. It is true that in Godzilla 2000 that there was early CGI incorporated into the movie because it was the 50th anniversary of Godzilla, but for the most part the studio kept to traditional methods.

I am not entirely sure what Godzilla movies they will show this time, but I look forward to it. They also had some raffles with the tickets for numerous prizes including gift certificates to the store. It is a worth while experience.
